The first migraine-plagued caveman
who countered his aching cranium
with crudely pounded flint (and lived)
surely shared his medical breakthrough.
Headcutting is old as woodcutting.
Aztec shaman or Greek physician,
a good doctor knew the value
of airing out a fevered brain.
In dark ages before Lister and Pasteur,
chirurgeons didn't know a virus
from a curse, but they needed a name
for the rusty saw they used to open
a blow-swelled skull: the trepane
saved careless courtiers from coma.
Modern surgeons' steel is clean, but treat
tyro trepanation with trepidation. Teen
mystics sing high of tuning third eyes
and praise their cordless doorknob drills
for opening new windows of perception
even as they lie blinded, bacterial feasts.
from strange horizons

saturday movie mania
Had a good time watching 27 dresses and Awake with Ada.
27 dresses was a light, fun movie; while Awake was a much interesting movie on anesthetic awareness. (1) , (2)
As usual, the night was long. Haven't been able to go to sleep easily. Too many thoughts but meditation helps for a while though. Makes me think much of this anxiety attacks that I have. I know I have been suffering alone back then, and withdrew to let anyone into my life. Now future's brighter I hope, as there are many options I can have. There are choices I can make everyday to build a better future and life. I just wish that along the way, I am given a chance to reconcile any unfulfilling relationship with old friends, whom I definitely still hold dear to and look up to as well.
I STP-ed today! yay. Can't wait to meet Dayang and the team in two weeks time for BBS.
Meantime, checking off my to do list each and everyday.

the science of happiness
positive psy
What determine happiness?
(Professor Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky)
50% - genetic
40% - what we think and act (intentional activities) - CHOICE
10% - life circumstances

moving on...
moving on...striving on...
taking the future rewards as a motivation, as much as the desire to get out of my unfulfilling past life...
I bought cat food! but where is the cat?...
